A Berry Sweet Day at Green Bluff, Washington

Today we found ourselves with a lot of extra time on our hands, so we decided to take a trip over to Green Bluff, Washington. It’s one of our favorite places to get our farm fix and pick up some delicious fruits and vegetables. Today we went with fruit in mind. I was particularly interested in some Rainier Cherries (my favorite) and some fresh strawberries, my kids were interested in seeing some animals and playing in the dirt.
Hidden Acres Orchards:
Our favorite stop over at Green Bluff is Hidden Acres. My kids love the playground and animals there and I LOVE their little farm store. We have gone there in every season, and they always have fantastic items for sale from fresh produce to spices and mixes, and always TONS of delicious frozen pies. One of my kids favorite parts is the candy selection. They have a lot of great candies that you can’t find anywhere else (think retro.) After loading up on candy we went and visited the animals. Hidden Acres is one of the only farms where you can get close to and feed the animals in Green Bluff that we’ve found, and the kids love it there. This time around we noticed that they had a sign up stating that the animals were actually for sale! If we had somewhere to put a goat we definitely would have ended up taking one of them home.

Walter’s Fruit Ranch:
Our second stop was over at Walter’s Fruit Ranch. You can find it right across the street! Walter’s is definitely a top contender for our favorite spot. They have a large farm store and a great play area for the kids. One of the best parts is that they also offer Upick (at an offsite location), and a café with ice cream, milk shakes, and more. After stopping in the farm store and getting my beloved Rainier cherries, we decided to head out to the Upick location and try our luck with some strawberries. The boxes they give you a HUGE and it’s only $10. The object is to fill it with as many strawberries as you can. Challenge accepted.

My kids started out with big dreams. We were arguing on the way over about who would pick the most strawberries and who would get the biggest. However, about five minutes into picking, my littlest one was way too hot and wanted to sit in the car. Womp womp. I would definitely recommend coming prepared for the heat. Bring lots of water, sun hats, and sunscreen. If you live far away, like we do, I would also recommend bringing a cooler to keep your strawberries in on the ride home. Some of ours ended up pretty squishy, although they were absolutely delicious.
At the End of the Day:

We had an awesome day out at Green Bluff. We spent about 3 hours, but you could easily spend so many more. Each farm and orchard offers something unique and well made, and each one has it’s own vibe. It’s really fun to hop from one to another and see what they each have in season, what they’ve baked today, or what the locals are up to. If you’ve never been definitely check out the website HERE and see what might interest you. I assure you there is something for everyone.
